Crimestoppers Tip Leads to Identification of Gentilly Murder Suspect

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Two days after releasing surveillance photos to the public of an unknown suspect wanted for murder in Gentilly, today, detectives have been able to identify the suspect based on an anonymous tip through Crimestoppers. The NOPD believes 22-year-old Joseph Smooth, Jr. is the man seen in the surveillance pictures below and is responsible for the murder of 31-year-old Chad Forest.

On September 1, 2014, shortly after 8:00 a.m., in the 2600 block of Dreux Avenue, officers responded to a call of shots fired and located Forest suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Forest was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for Smooth for Second Degree Murder and requesting the public’s assistance in locating Smooth.
