What positions has this officer/deputy held within your agency?
Joseph Chevis joined the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s office initially on June 27, 2005 as deputy in the Corrections Department. He was promoted to the rank of: Corporal on October 12, 2008, the rank of Sergeant on August 29, 2010, and the rank of Lieutenant on February 12, 2012. He separated from the department on May 16, 2013.
Joseph Chevis rejoined the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office on November 2, 2015, as a deputy in the Corrections Department. On Sunday, May 16, 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal in the Booking Division. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on May 28, 2017, and Lieutenant on December 9, 2018. He still currently serves as a Lieutenant in our Corrections Department.

The team that responded arrived in the cell 34 seconds after the call for assistance was dispatched. None of them hesitated to render aid. Lt. Chevis immediately took control of the situation as the incident commander after cutting the sheet. He gave clear orders that maintained safety for all involved parties. Deputies Clark and Green were able to keep the offender’s body weight from dropping while the sheet was being cut to help increase his oxygen level. Deputies Whitney and Martinez were able to assist in stabilizing his body. Their rapid response was effective in saving the offenders life.
