The NOPD arrested 17-year-old August Garnett in connection with the April 22, 2015 shooting death of 40-year-old Cantrell Monday. The shooting occurred near the intersection of Alabo and Marais Street in the Lower Ninth Ward.  On Saturday, June 13, 2015, around 2:30 p.m., Fifth District General Assignment Detective William Pearson was on proactive patrol near the intersection Marais and Lizardi Streets, after receiving information from a Crimestoppers tip alerting him that Garnett is known to frequent the area. Detective Pearson observed Garnett travelling northbound on Jordan Avenue. Detective Pearson attempted to conduct a traffic stop at which time Garnett refused to stop and a vehicular pursuit ensued. Garnett bailed out of the Camry in the 1200 block of Andry Street. During the foot chase, detectives observed Garnett hand a package to an unknown male, later identified as 17-year-old Kendall Celestine, as he ran through a playground. Detectives detained Celestine and Garnett was later apprehended a few feet away without further incident. During the apprehension, Garnett was found to be in possession of marijuana and a black semi-automatic pistol.  During the course of the investigation, Detectives learned that the  black Toyota Camry Garnett was driving was carjacked from a man on June 1, 2015, in the 5500 block of Saint Bernard Avenue. Garnett was not charged with the initial carjacking as that investigation is on-going. CRIMESTOPPERS TIP HELPS NOPD IDENTIFY A SECOND SUSPECT IN THE MURDER INVESTIGATION OF TWO BROTHERS

The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Jonathan Evans, who is wanted in connection with the fatal double shooting that claimed the life of 22-year-old Kendrick Bishop and 18-year-old Kendred Bishop. Both brothers were gunned down inside of a vehicle in the 4800 block of Bright Drive. The incident occurred on Monday, May 25, 2015. Around 5:45 a.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area. When officers arrived, they found both brothers shot to death inside of a black Kia sedan. Both victims died on the scene. During the course of the investigation, Detective Gregory Johnson received a Crimestoppers tip connecting Evans to the murder. Earlier this week, Evans’ accomplice, 23-year-old Widner “Flow” Degruy was also named a suspect in the shooting. Detective Gregory Johnson was able to obtain surveillance that depicts Degruy and Evans possibly running from the scene and making a purchase at a nearby store. Degruy is seen in the video wearing a dark colored hooded shirt while Evans is wearing a hat and short pants.       FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 04/29/2015 CRIMESTOPPERS TIP LEADS TO THE ARREST OF TWO SUSPECTS IN A 2014 UPTOWN MURDER NEW ORLEANS – Today, members of the NOPD Homicide Division arrested 23-year-old Victoria Norwood and 30-year-old Kenneth Harvey, in connection with the death of 25-year-old Jessie Taylor, IV. On Thursday, April 24, 2014, Taylor’s body was discovered in an elevator shaft of an abandoned building located at 2616 South Claiborne Avenue. Around 10:35 a.m., officers were called to investigate a body found by contractors. When officers arrived they found human skeletal remains in the elevator shaft. The remains were collected by the coroner’s office for examination. Taylor’s remains were examined by the Louisiana State University Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services. NOPD ARRESTS SUSPECT FOR LSD, MUSHROOMS AND OTHER ILLEGAL NARCOTICS ON VERNA COURT NEW ORLEANS, LA. – The NOPD Third District General Assignment Unit, along with the assistance of the DEA Task Force and Homeland Security Investigators, arrested 32-year-old Christian Prechter and booked him with charges including possession with the intent to distribute narcotics.  The incident took place April 23, 2015, at 1421 Verna Street. Detectives received information from a Crimestoppers Tip that illegal drugs were being sold from the location. During the course on the investigation and after conducting surveillance, it was determined that the suspect was selling narcotics from the location.  While detectives were preparing a search warrant for the location, Prechter left the location in a vehicle at which time detectives conducted a narcotics stop.  Detectives found Prechter in possession of approximately twelve OxyContin tablets.    Detectives executed the search warrant at the location and found approximately two pounds of marijuana, approximately two pounds of psilocybin (hallucinogenic mushrooms), approximately one pound of hash, approximately seven grams of LSD (lysergic acid) and approximately $1,800.00 in cash. Prechter was transported to central lock up and booked with possession with the intent to distribute hash, psilocybin (mushrooms), Oxycontin and marijuana, possession of marijuana and distribution of marijuana.    Below is a photograph of the confiscated illegal drugs.
